Turning the Tides

1:20 AM

My ever supportive friends who I can't thank enough for always having my back. I love you guys.

What started out as a desperate attempt to earn extra credit, resulted in me having to face a huge crowd of JPIA members from Region X & CARAGA.
I really did not see this coming--joining a pageant, winning a pageant and seeing two crowns in my bedroom. To be honest, I didn't even know joining the school-wide pageant entailed having to represent the entire organization in two inter-school JPIA events. The first two pageants were a breeze, there was no drama and most of the crowd, if not everyone, were happy with the results (well, at least that's what I want to believe), but in this recent one, drama was everywhere; from our disastrous theme wear that got all of our team crying in despair (which thankfully our mentors and fellow XU JPIA got to improvise at the very last minute, or else it would've been the end of us), to the coronation drama!

Frankly, I'm still a bit confused as to what went on during the coronation night, but a strong contender, Ms. BSU, was called as the second runner up and the crowd (including us on stage, actually) went berserk and started booing because it was obvious that she deserved a higher spot. Even the judges were surprised about the result. Anyway, long story short, fifteen or so minutes after the mild commotion, the results were reviewed, and when the final ones were out, crowd favorite Ms. BSU, Mr. MSU-IIT, my partner Kristian, and I, were the ones left vying for the titles of Mr. and Ms. Ambassadress of Goodwill. I remember when the 1st runners-up were about to be called, Kristian and I were about to go forward even when we weren’t called yet because we just really wanted the night to end already and honestly, hearing the whole crowd cheer for another candidate was a tough act to follow, I was even scared I’d get the exact same boos as the other candidate did, but somehow, God had a different plan for us, instead of being awarded as first runners-up, we were both crowned as the winners sans the boos (Thank God! I wouldn’t know what I’d feel had I been booed while being crowned. :O).

I’m truly still in a daze, it still hasn’t sunk in that we’re representing the region in the upcoming National Midyear Convention this October. I’m not expecting to win, but I’m definitely putting my best foot forward to try to bring the crown home. I know it’s going to be a long shot, but who knows? We had no idea we’d win in the regionals, maybe our lucky streak isn’t over just yet. We’ll see.
